For life

Have you ever been on an amazing dive, still had way more than half a tank, but got sent up because you were running short on bottom time? Or do you want to dive an a wreck at 30m and be able to stay longer than only a few minutes before having to start ascending? You can!

If you dive with enriched air instead of normal air, you can make your bottom time a lot longer. Instead of having 21% oxygen like normal air, nitrox is "enriched" with oxygen, which means you can have 32% oxygen in your tank. Or 36%, or even another percentage of oxygen, as long as it's more than 21%, we say the tank contains enriched air.

In short, diving while breathing a gas which holds more oxygen, but less nitrogen, will have 2 consequences. First, because of the higher percentage of oxygen, you will have to limit your maximum depth. The higher the oxygen percentage, the less deep you will be able to go, because oxygen does get toxic at higher pressures. Second, because of the lower percentage of nitrogen, you can make your bottom time longer. This is of course why people dive with nitrox blends. Another advantage is that diving with nitrox will make you less tired and limit your risk of having the bends, if you are doing lots of dives in a short timeframe, because you will accumulate less nitrogen in your blood. This makes nitrox a very desirable mix to use on dive safaris.

In the course you will see all of this in more detail. There are no compulsory dives to make, which make the nitrox specialty a nice course to do during winter. If possible however, we will do 2 dives to see the theory in practice.
